When it comes to operating even a mom-and-pop business, it’s not good enough if future sales are just in your head. Put sales and profit plans on paper.
That will be one lesson from a free, two-part workshop run by La Fuerza Unida Community Development Corp. in East Norwich and the Small Business Development Center at Farmingdale State College. The first part, on preparing a business plan, will be held 9 a.m. to noon today at the college’s small business conference center. The second part will focus on preparing for a loan, set for 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 4 at the center.
Giovana Ramirez, La Fuerza Unida’s fiscal and lending officer, said some small business owners and hopefuls carry sales figures and expansion agendas “in their heads.”
“You really want to put it down on paper,” she said, “and when you put down the numbers, you get a clearer picture of where your financials are.”
Space is still available for the workshop. For details, call the nonprofit at 516-922-8100.
If it’s not all in your head, bring your plan, work estimates, proposed contracts and any business paperwork for class discussion and advice.
