3 LI organizations receive grants for energy research

Three Long Island organizations received nearly $900,000 total in grants from New York State for their efforts in researching and developing of energy efficient technologies for buildings, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced Wednesday.

The grants -- to a total of 19 companies in the state -- is the second of six rounds of funding through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority's Advanced Building's program. NYSERDA plans on granting a total of $25 million in the course of the program.

The Long Island organization that received the NYSERDA grants are:

- Autronic Plastics Inc. of Westbury, which received $307,000 for their development and work on an efficient, wireless and low voltage LED-based lighting system for construction sites.

- Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton received $100,000 for research on air supply into baseboard radiators, which could allow for the use of high efficiency heat pumps, condensing boilers and solar collectors.

- ThermoLift Inc. in Stony Brook, which is developing an efficient, natural gas powered heat pump that can be used as a heater and air conditioner, received $483,000.
