Walmart to give raises to 4,600 LI workers

About 4,600 Walmart and Sams Club workers on Long Island are scheduled to receive pay raises on Thursday.

They are among 33,834 workers statewide and among 1.2 million nationally who will get the raises, a spokesman for Walmart said Tuesday.

Walmart and Sams club employ a total of 5,056 Long Islanders but not all are eligible for the raises.

The March 10 paycheck also will include quarterly bonuses based on their stores’ performance.

The increases are part of the company’s two-year, $2.7 billion investment in higher pay, better training, clearer career paths and additional educational opportunities for its workers.

All workers hired before Jan. 1 will earn at least $10 an hour. Those hired after Jan. 1 will start at $9 an hour until they complete training.

Associates already earning more than $10 an hour will see their annual pay increase starting in March rather than waiting until their anniversary date.
