As the 700 employees of Canon U.S.A. show up for work Tuesday at the new headquarters in Melville, they're finding a welcome packet on their desks.
The packet includes information about banks, drugstores and other nearby services. However, there are no restaurant listings because Canon executives expect most of the rank and file to use the building’s 500-seat cafeteria, and in warmer weather, an outdoor courtyard.
Asked about the packets, Canon chief administrative officer Seymour Liebman said, “We didn’t want people to come in like the first day of school and feel lost .?.?. We wanted people to feel comfortable.”
'Success is zero deaths on the roadway' Newsday reporters spent this year examining the risks on Long Island's roads, where traffic crashes over a decade killed more than 2,100 people and seriously injured more than 16,000. This documentary is a result of that newsroom-wide effort.
