Cherry Heering, the Danish company that produces a cherry liqueur, has put a rare 1890 vintage up for auction to benefit Design Industries Foundation Fighting Aids.
The original bottle can be found and bid on online at Charitybuzz.com from now until midnight New York time Dec. 6. The charity auction site features luxe items that go to benefit a host of charities. (Click here to visit Charitybuzz.com.)
The bottle also will also be made available to the public via a live auction at Sotheby's in Manhattan on the evening of Dec. 6. The exact value of the rare blend is currently unknown, but some estimates expect a price of $100,000.
According to the company, the 1890 vintage was discovered in the Heering cellars in Denmark where it had been perfectly aged since production more than 120 years ago. Only a few bottles were found, all perfectly preserved in original casks, hand packed in wooden casings, and exquisitely marked as the purveyor to Danish and Russian royalty as well as the Prince of Wales.
The liqueur was tested during a tasting in Manhattan this past May. Reports indicate it is in immaculate condition, prompting the auction.
