Melville-based high-fashion eyeglasses maker Marchon Eyewear on Friday and Saturday debuted, in a few Southern California movie theaters, its new vending machines for 3-D glasses.
They're for the image-conscious film buff who won't settle for the flimsy pair provided free with a movie ticket. The machines dispense Marchon's EX3D brand of glasses in the $22 to $30 range, mostly, with a few high-end $70 choices.
The company's Marchon3D division says it's the first to install in-theater, self-service vending machines for the three-dimensional lenses. The machines offer Marchon's proprietary EX3D eyewear, with curved RealD compatible lenses, with a choice of "fashion, sport, casual and kids styles in a variety of trendy colors and fashionable shapes."
EX3D also plans to take care of people who wear prescription eyeglasses, by selling clip-ons and full-frame 3-D glasses.
The glasses are designed to work on passive televisions, gaming systems and laptops, too.
