Kenneth Adams, NY tax commissioner nominee, heads to private sector

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's nominee for state tax commissioner is leaving for the private sector, the governor said Friday.
Kenneth Adams was nominated to be commissioner of taxation and finance earlier this year. He had been president of Empire State Development, the state's primary business-aid agency, for four years during Cuomo's first term.
Adams didn't immediately respond to a voice-mail message left Friday on his cellphone. A tax department spokesman declined to elaborate on Cuomo's announcement.
Previously, Adams was president of the Business Council of New York State. He is the grandson of the late John Cranford Adams, Hofstra University president from 1944 to 1964, and has a home in Hampton Bays.
Cuomo on Friday nominated Jerry Boone to be tax commissioner. He has been leading the state Civil Service Commission.
