AMC locks up 'Godfather'
It was a deal that cable channel AMC, a subsidiary of Bethpage-based Cablevisions Systems Corp., couldn't refuse — it has signed a nine-year deal for exclusive rights to carry "The Godfather" movies on basic cable.
TheWrap.com reports that Paramount gave AMC the rights from January 2011 through 2019.
It's the longest TV deal ever signed for director Francis Ford Coppola's trilogy, TheWrap.com said.
Tom Halleen, AMC's senior vice president of programming and scheduling, announced the deal Tuesday. He said in a news release, "The Godfather is recognized as one of the greatest sagas ever told on film, AMC is proud to be the exclusive long-term basic cable home to this incredible franchise, for the next decade."
