The U.S. Army will exercise a $4.3 million option under a contract with Hauppauge-based Globecomm Systems Inc. for equipment, the company has announced.

Globecomm, a manufacturer of satellite-based communications systems, will continue to produce modems for military and commercial satellites to provide satellite communication for soldiers.

The company was awarded a $9.9 million contract with options in November 2007 to make the Joint IP Modem. The exercising of the latest option brings the value of the contract to $22.8 million, with $64.2 million of options remaining over the next 5 months.
