Melville-based Arrow Electronics Inc. has signed a United Kingdom distribution agreement with Voltaire Inc., a leading data-center provider.

Voltaire makes electronic transmission "fabric" that can send simultaneous packets of information much faster than standard ethernet cables or other lines.

The high-speed fabric is used in time-sensitive commercial transactions, for example, for hedge funds, securities exchanges and banks. The company makes other equipment, including the Grid Director switches, above left.

The distribution will be handled by an Arrow business segment, Arrow Enterprise Computing Solutions. It will be the first U.K. representative for Voltaire's products, including its InfiniBand, 10 GbE and InfiniBand-to-Ethernet Gateway switching platforms.

Voltaire, based in Ra’anana, Israel and Chelmsford, Mass., says its fabrics are used more than 30 percent of companies listed on the Fortune 100.
