Astoria Bank announced plans Friday to open its 88th branch, in Long Island City, before the end of the year.

Astoria Bank announced plans Friday to open its 88th branch, in Long Island City, before the end of the year.

Lake Success-based Astoria said the new location, at 26-26 Jackson Ave., is undergoing renovations.

"Recent surges in business and residential development have helped to turn this once heavily industrial area of Queens into a diverse and vibrant neighborhood, and we look forward to satisfying the community's growing financial needs," Astoria Bank president and CEO Monte Redman said in a statement.

Astoria Bank has assets of $15.3 billion.
