Audiovox Corp., the Hauppauge consumer electronics maker, says it has developed "the first automotive Blu-ray disc player."

Audiovox made the announcement about the innovation — which it calls AVDBR1 — at a Las Vegas electronics show this week.

"We developed the AVDBR1 in response to the consumer preference for Blu-ray discs in their home entertainment systems," Tom Malone, the Audiovox president, said in a prepared statement.

"This mobile solution will allow them to maintain a single video collection that works both in the vehicle and at home."

The AVDBR1 is installed in the vehicle under a seat or in a storage compartment.
It connects to any monitor with HDMI, composite or component cables.
