When couples fight over money, it's usually because there's too little. But there can also be arguments when there's a windfall.
Last year, the average refund from the IRS was just under $3,000. Scott and Bethany Palmer, financial advisers and authors who appear on various TV shows as "The Money Couple," pass along these tips on how to strike a deal over a refund.
Compromise Use some of the money to pay off debt or for needed home improvements, but also splurge a bit on a vacation or fun getaway.
Invest in yourselves Join a gym and make that New Year's resolution about losing weight come true.
Never again A refund is money you've been lending the government, interest free. Redo your withholdings to avoid a big refund in 2013. Use the extra money you'll have this year for something a little special each month.
