Barnes & Noble to open its 10th LI location, in Commack

Barnes & Noble is opening a new store in Commack.
The grand opening is scheduled for Wednesday, the bookseller announced in a news release.
The store, at 58 Veterans Memorial Hwy., spans approximately 9,500 square feet. It will be the 10th Barnes and Noble location on Long Island.
The location was selected for its size and bustling activity, Janine Flanigan, the company's vice president of store design, told Newsday earlier this year.
The new store is "just two miles from the Jericho Turnpike Barnes & Noble that closed in 2024 when its lease ended," according to the release.
The bookseller signed a lease in November for the Commack building — before that, it housed Party City, and more recently, the seasonal retailer Everything Christmas, Newsday previously reported.
Barnes & Noble operates 717 stores across the country, and 20 new locations have opened so far this year, Flanigan told Newsday via email on Thursday. While there are no plans for another Long Island location to follow Commack, the bookseller will be opening a new store in Bayside, Queens, in spring 2027, she added.
In recent years, several independent bookstores have come to Long Island, such as Theodore's Books in Oyster Bay and A Book Place in Riverhead. Additionally, Published in Huntington (a bookstore and bar) along with Book RePort in Port Washington opened within the last few months.
Customers will have access to exclusive in-store deals during the grand opening in Commack, such as $50 off any Nook device and 40% off "all DVD, Blu-ray and 4k Ultra HD movies," according to the release.
Opening day is set to be a busy one: A ribbon-cutting and book-signing with young adult author Jen Calonita is scheduled for 10 a.m. There is another book signing with fantasy novelist Sarah Beth Durst scheduled for noon, and a storytime at 2 p.m. hosted by costume character Biscuit the Dog, from the children's book series.
