Barnes & Noble plan to demolish location in North Hempstead denied

The North Hempstead Building Department has denied a developer’s request to demolish a Barnes & Noble store in Manhasset and replace it with multitenant building.

The Town of North Hempstead’s Building Department denied a permit application from the store’s owners, C&B Realty. The developer was scheduled to appear before the town’s zoning board of appeals on April 20, but the applicant requested the hearing be postponed. The case will be heard on Wednesday.

The Barnes & Noble store is located at 1542 Northern Blvd. 

If the town’s board of zoning appeals grants variances for the project, the developers must seek approval from the town board for site plan review.
