Bay Shore volunteers build home

In Bay Shore on Saturday, Jie Zhang and Jingchuan Sun got help from members of Habitat for Humanity to raise the walls of a home at 12 Harrison Avenue where they will live.

Female volunteers from Bay Shore-based Duralee Fabrics, part of Habitat's and the Lowe’s Women Build program, pitched in on this home, the eleventh Habitat Suffolk affordable home sponsored by Duralee in the Town of Islip.

Jingchuan Sun, Jie Zhang, and their daughter, Yifei, will live in this 918-square-foot Katrina-style cottage with two-bedrooms and a front porch. The Islip Community Development Agency bought the 50-by-100 property in 2005. In 2008, the agency transferred it to HFHS. The home will meet Energy Star building standards and will have solar panels.
