Bethpage credit union: Fire your bank

If you’ve ever dreamt of firing your bank – and all its checking account fees – now you can.

At least you can create and print out a pink slip saying, “You’re fired! Here’s why.”

That’s one feature of a new promotion launched Wednesday by Bethpage Federal Credit Union. It’s called “FREEdom Fighters” and encourages consumers to “say NO to checking fees–right here, right now” and open a free checking account with Bethpage. (Overall, credit unions are known to be less fee-oriented than commercial banks.)

What’s more, if you bring in the pink slip – and trade in your “fired” bank’s debit card and unused checks – you’ll get a $25 reward when you open that new account.
