CPI moves to bigger facility
CPI Aerostructures Inc., of Edgewood, has completed its move to a new, larger location, across the street from its old building, the company said Tuesday. The new site, at 91 Heartland Blvd., has triple the floor space: about 171,000 square feet. CPI makes parts for military aircraft. The new facility "has sufficient space to accommodate anticipated growth in orders, programs and customers," Edward J. Fred, CPI Aerostructure's president and chief executive, said in a statement. -- Joseph Mallia
Globecomm's NATO deal grows
Globecomm Systems Inc., the Hauppauge defense and satellite communications maker, announced on Tuesday an $8.8-million contract extension to supply its blue-force tracking system to a NATO agency. The battlefield friend-or-foe communications network helps prevent "blue-on-blue" incidents, Globecomm said. NATO's communications and information systems agency awarded the contract extension, a segment of a multiyear deal. Globecomm in February announced that it had garnered about $52.5 million in contracts from NATO to design and install a GPS force tracking system. The system "enables NATO to identify where its personnel are located at all times, identify other multinational forces and have the ability to do so in routine and operational situations," the company said. -- Joseph Mallia
Share buy boosts Cedar Realty
Shares of Cedar Realty Trust, a Port Washington-based property investment firm, rose more than 13 percent Tuesday after news that another Long Island company has bought more than $18.7 million of its shares. The news was disclosed Tuesday morning in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing. It said Winthrop Realty Trust, based in Jericho, since October had accumulated about 5.2 million shares, the equivalent of 7.6 percent of Cedar. While Cedar shares closed at $4.50, up 54 cents, the firm's stock is still down substantially for the year, off about 27 percent despite Tuesday's improvement. Cedar owns a network of shopping centers along the East Coast that are mostly anchored by grocery stores. Winthrop's shares also rose yesterday, up almost 4 percent to $10.29. -- Joseph Mallia

Less holiday air travel forecast
Fewer people will fly this holiday season, but flights will still be packed. That's according to a forecast released Tuesday by the main trade group representing U.S. airlines. Airlines for America predicts that about 43.3 million travelers will fly on U.S. carriers over the three-week holiday period, a 1 percent decline from a year earlier. That works out to about 20,000 fewer people per day. The trade group attributes the decline to lingering economic concerns and high energy prices that are limiting would-be travelers' disposable income. -- AP
Bowl-game cigar-ad deal hit
Several public health organizations are calling on the Orange Bowl and the NCAA to pull a three-year deal with Camacho Cigars, saying tobacco promotions like the Florida cigar company's sponsorship of the football games have no place in sports and shouldn't be allowed under federal tobacco marketing restrictions. The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, the American Cancer Society and eight other groups sent a letter Tuesday to game organizers and officials with the collegiate athletic group raising concerns over the deal. The move by the public health groups is the latest in a push to get tobacco out of sports. The Camacho Cigars sponsorship includes a large presence at several game-day events, including lounges where fans can light up. The agreement is for the 2012-2014 Orange Bowl games and the 2013 BCS National Championship. -- AP
