Patchogue-based Blue Point Brewing Co. is putting the finishing touches on a new brewpub it plans to open in Brooklyn later this year.
The new outfit, called the Hull, will be located in a roughly 1,500-square-foot cellar space beneath sustainable seafood restaurant Seamore’s, located at 66 Water St. in the DUMBO neighborhood near the Manhattan Bridge. The new establishment marks the first time the beer maker has opened an operation outside of Long Island.
The cost of the new space was not disclosed.
The Hull, which is partnering with Seamore’s to offer a curated selection of food options, is set to open on Oct. 17, said Hull general manager Chris Chou-Messina.
“Although we’re offering food, our emphasis is on the beer,” Chou-Messina said. “We have a fully functioning , two-barrel brewing system.”
In addition to an eight-item menu that will include top sellers from Seamore’s and Blue Point’s massive Patchogue brewery and headquarters, the operation will also offer a variety of cocktails that use Blue Point beers as base ingredients.
“We want to explore where beer and spirits meet,” Chou-Messina said.

The location will also feature a stage that will host local musical acts as well as other events, including lectures and potential podcast recordings.
The brewpub project has “been in the works for six to eight months,” said Mark Burford, president and co-founder of Blue Point. “Finding a spot is always challenging, especially in New York City.”
Burford, who was named president of the Long Island beermaker after former president Jenna Lally left the company in May, said the new location gives Blue Point the opportunity to “bring our brand out to New York City.
“Hopefully, we spread the message for folks, and they spend the time to come and visit us in Patchogue,” he said. In addition to its food offerings and the sale of its classic beers, the brewery plans to use the location as an innovation hub to craft small batches of more experimental beers.

Blue Point also plans to develop an “innovation brewery” at its 54,000-square-foot Patchogue headquarters “near the end of this year,” Burford said.
The maker of Toasted Lager, Hoptical Illusion and RastafaRye Ale operated out of a smaller space along River Avenue in Patchogue for 20 years before constructing a nearly $40 million brewing facility on the site of the former Briarcliffe College. The new brewery opened to the public earlier this year.
Burford said the company has no plans now to open up additional locations.
“Right now, we’re really focused on getting the Hull up,” he said. “There is no greater plan to build more pubs as we speak.”
Blue Point, founded in 1998 by Burford and Peter Cotter, became the biggest craft beermaker on Long Island before being acquired by AB InBev in 2014, joining the beer giant’s growing catalog of craft breweries.
