Blue Point Brewing Co. to get up to $4M for Patchogue relocation

Blue Point Brewing Co. will receive up to $4 million in sales tax exemptions and property tax abatements for its planned relocation to downtown Patchogue.

The Brookhaven Town Industrial Development Agency approved the tax breaks Oct. 19, following a public hearing on the brewery’s request, IDA chief executive Lisa Mulligan said in an interview.

Blue Point Brewing, currently located in a 40,000-square-foot facility on River Road in Patchogue, plans to move into a 53,361-square-foot West Main Street building that is occupied by Briarcliffe College, a gym and Flo’s Luncheonette. The college is slated to close in about a year.

Blue Point hopes to open the new location by September, according to documents filed with the IDA.

The IDA board voted 6-0 to approve about $2 million worth of payments in lieu of taxes over 10 years, and up to $2 million in sales tax exemptions, Mulligan said.

“We’re really excited about how this project will help in revitalizing Patchogue Village,” Mulligan said.

The $35 million project is expected to include a restaurant and brewery tours, officials have said. The brewery’s move is awaiting Patchogue Village approvals and relocation of the West Main Street building’s current tenants. The brewing company plans to expand its workforce from 37 employees to 67 as part of the move.
