On Thursday a rally was held outside South Nassau Communities Hospital, because the contract between the Oceanside-based hospital and Empire BlueCross expired on May 1. If a deal isn’t reached after a 60-day cooling-off period, patients receiving non-emergency care beginning July 1 could be forced to find alternative means for care or pay for out-of-network expenses.
