Brookhaven IDA offers Sandy-relief program

Brookhaven Town’s industrial development agency Friday announced a relief program for Sandy-ravaged businesses of all sizes.

The IDA will provide a sales-tax exemption to eligible companies for the purchase of building materials, equipment and other supplies needed to reopen after the Oct. 29 storm. Automobile purchases are excluded, said Lisa Mulligan, IDA chief executive.

The program is open to all businesses damaged by Sandy, regardless of how many people they employ or the size of the rebuilding project. Such restrictions exist with some rival initiatives by other IDAs.

Brookhaven is charging a $50 application fee. Both the Nassau County IDA and Suffolk County IDA have waived fees for similar relief programs.
