Brookhaven National Laboratory projects are up for awards

Four projects developed at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton have been nominated as finalists for awards to be presented this year by a national magazine.

The laboratory's projects were nominated for the R & D 100, a contest honoring technological innovations. Awards, sponsored by Rockaway, New Jersey-based R & D Magazine, will be announced in November at the R & D 100 Awards & Technology Conference in Las Vegas.

The lab's nominees are: the eValuator-3500, an integrated circuit device used in medical imaging; CZT-ElectrodePlus, a nonmetallic electrode contact used to fabricate radiation detectors; the Active Superconducting Fault Current Limited, which protects grid equipment from short circuits, and the Binary Pseudo-Random Calibration Tool, used in surface imaging.

Brookhaven Lab has won more than 30 R & D 100 awards since 1987. Last year, the lab was honored for the Gamma Scout, a type of gamma ray detector.
