Builder Hendricks OK'd for Suffolk IDA
Suffolk County lawmakers Tuesday approved the nomination of Grant Hendricks, a construction industry executive from Bay Shore, to serve on the board of directors of the county's industrial development agency.
The move fills a vacancy and paves the way for the IDA board to elect a chairman at its meeting Thursday. Jim Morgo, chairman for the past six years, stepped down in May because of other commitments. David Rosenberg, a veteran board director, has run recent meetings.
Hendricks is president of two companies: Bimasco Inc., which builds roads in Nassau and Suffolk counties, and G9 Turf, a manufacturer and installer of synthetic turf sports fields. He also is vice president of Bituminous Roadrunner Inc., an asphalt transporter.
Hendricks holds leadership positions with the Long Island Regional Planning Council, the United Way, Long Island Contractors' Association and Local 1298 of the Laborers International Union. He is a member of Local 138 of the International Union of Operating Engineers.
Hendricks is the third IDA board member with strong ties to organized labor. The board has seven members, all volunteers.
