Building contract value rises 13% in NY metro area
The value of contracts for future construction in the metropolitan area rose 13 percent last month compared with a year ago on higher residential activity.
Dodge Data & Analytics, an industry information service, Thursday reported contracts worth $2.2 billion for all future building were awarded in September in the 23-county region that includes Long Island, up from $1.9 billion in September 2014.
Residential contracts totaled $965 million last month, up 44 percent year over year.
Nonresidential contracts, for commercial properties such as offices, hotels, factories and warehouses, fell 3 percent to $1.2 billion.
