$2.9B judgment upheld
The Alabama Supreme Court upheld a $2.9-billion judgment against imprisoned HealthSouth Corp. founder Richard Scrushy on Friday, rejecting claims that he shouldn't have to pay for the fraud that nearly wrecked the rehabilitation company. Lawyers already have confiscated about $100-million worth of assets.
Sara Lee breaking in two
Sara Lee Corp., whose brands include Jimmy Dean, Ball Park and Senseo, is splitting into two public companies that will be more tightly focused on food and drinks. Stockholders will get a special $3 dividend and their shares will split to give them an interest in each company.
