KEY EVENT: September jobs. The state Labor Department on Thursday releases jobs created on Long Island in September. In August employers added 15,200 new jobs in Nassau and Suffolk, 2,400 more than they did in August 2017.
MONDAY: The Federal Reserve Bank of New York releases the October Empire State survey, an update on state manufacturing activity. Also, September retail sales from the Commerce Department. Earnings: Bank of America.
TUESDAY: The October economic optimism survey from the National Association of Home Builders. Also, the number of unfilled national jobs as of Aug. 31 from the Labor Department. Earnings: IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Morgan Stanley, Netflix, UnitedHealth Group.
WEDNESDAY: The Commerce Department releases September housing starts. Also, the Federal Reserve releases the minutes from its September meeting, where it raised interest rates. Earnings: Abbott Laboratories, Alcoa, U.S. Bancorp.
THURSDAY: Jobless benefits claims for the week ended Oct. 13 from the U.S. Labor Department. Also, leading economic indicators in September from the Conference Board. Earnings: American Express, Bank of New York Mellon, PayPal, People’s United Financial, Travelers.
FRIDAY: September existing-home sales from the National Association of Realtors. Earnings: Honeywell International, Procter & Gamble, oil field services provider Schlumberger.
