Business week ahead, Oct. 22-26

KEY EVENT: LI unemployment update. In September, the U.S. jobless rate fell to 3.7 percent, a 49-year low. Now it’s Long Island’s turn to report. The state Labor Department on Tuesday releases September unemployment rates in Nassau, Suffolk and Long Island as whole. In August, the Long Island jobless rate was 3.8 percent.

MONDAY: An update on U.S. economic activity in September from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Earnings: Hasbro.

TUESDAY: Earnings from Lake Success bank company Flushing Financial, 3M, Caterpillar, Harley-Davidson, McDonald’s and Verizon.

WEDNESDAY: September new-home sales from the Commerce Department. Also, the Federal Reserve releases the October beige book, a collection of unofficial and still-early economic data. Earnings: Jericho gas station properties owner Getty Realty, AT&T, Boeing, Microsoft.

THURSDAY: Jobless benefits claims for the week ended Oct. 20 from the U.S. Labor Department. Also, the Commerce Department releases September durable goods orders, an update on the production of expensive products such as aircraft and major appliances. And September pending home sales from the National Association of Realtors. Earnings: New Hyde Park shopping centers owner Kimco Realty, Google parent Alphabet, Amazon, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Intel, Roosevelt Field mall owner Simon Property Group, Twitter.

FRIDAY: Third-quarter GDP from the Commerce Department.
