KEY EVENT: A flood of news includes a first look at third-quarter GDP, several housing reports and an update on Long Island employment in September.
MONDAY: Earnings from Facebook and Kleenex maker Kimberly-Clark.
TUESDAY: The state Labor Department releases September unemployment rates for Nassau, Suffolk and Long Island as whole. Also, three housing reports: September new-home sales from the Commerce Department, August home prices from S&P/Case-Shiller and August single-family home prices from the Federal Housing Finance Agency. And October consumer confidence from the Conference Board. Earnings: Uniondale bank company Flushing Financial, Google parent Alphabet, Capital One, Microsoft, Twitter, Visa.
WEDNESDAY: The Commerce Department releases September durable goods orders, an update on the manufacture of expensive items such as cars, aircraft and computers. Earnings: Jericho gas stations properties owner Getty Realty, Westbury bank company New York Community Bancorp, Boeing, Coca-Cola, eBay, McDonald’s, Harley-Davidson.
THURSDAY: Third-quarter GDP from the Commerce Department. The report is considered the best gauge of U.S. economic activity. Also, September pending home sales from the National Association of Realtors. And jobless benefits claims for the week ended Oct. 23 from the Labor Department. Earnings: Amazon, Apple, Caterpillar, Merck, Northrop Grumman, Starbucks.
FRIDAY: Earnings from Chevron and Exxon Mobil.
