CA buying virtualization company
Islandia-based CA Technologies on Tuesday said it is buying Hyperformix, a Texas software company that will help advance its virtualization product line.
CA's marketing and sales have recently begun to focus on what it calls VM stall, or virtual machine stall — a situation in which a client takes initial steps toward virtualization, then basks in its early success and fails to complete the process.
Hyperformix software can help CA customers bridge the "stall" stage, CA says.
Virtualization is a method of reducing software, hardware, energy, maintenance and floor-space costs. It involves the use of, for example, a single large computer server to run numerous "virtual" computers, each equipped with a different suite of software and operating systems.
CA did not say how much it proposes to pay for Hyperformix, of Austin, Tex.
It described Hyperformix as "a leading provider of capacity management software for dynamic physical, virtual, and cloud IT infrastructures."
Hoover’s Company Records lists Hyperformix as having 86 employees; the database did not provide an annual sales estimate. Hoover’s description of HyPerformix says it “helps companies get high performance from their IT systems.
The company provides software and services used to manage, monitor, and optimize the performance of enterprise applications. HyPerformix's products are used for tasks such as application design, testing, and capacity planning.” Its customers are in the financial services, manufacturing, retail, and transportation industries.
