CA gets contract with telecommunications client

A CA Technologies Inc. subsidiary has secured a new contract to supply network software for a Louisiana telecommunications client.

The subsidiary, Nimsoft Inc., is one of several companies Islandia-based CA bought this year to beef up its cloud computing offerings.

Nimsoft's new client is Global Data Systems, which specializes in voice over Internet protocol systems. CA did not disclose the dollar value of the deal.

For the new client, Nimsoft will "replace multiple tools in its network operations center."

The software "enables unified monitoring of client infrastructures — virtually eliminating the need to manage and integrate multiple disparate monitoring tools," California-based Nimsoft said in a news release. Nimsoft said it "also supports GDS's strategic migration to more virtualized, cloud-based infrastructure.”

CA, of Islandia, paid $350 million for Nimsoft this spring.

Cloud computing refers to flexible, cost-saving subscription plans allowing clients to use - and pay for - variable amounts of data storage, software and other resources on the Internet, as needed.
