A former chief executive of Microsoft Italia has been hired by CA Technologies as its new president for the region including Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Marco Comastri, who also held executive leadership positions at IBM and at Postecom -- the electronic services division of the Italian post office, or Poste Italiane -- "is charged with accelerating the company's business growth . . ." CA, the Islandia business software company, said in a Tuesday news release.

His main task will be "further positioning CA Technologies as a trusted adviser to its customers and strengthening its reputation as a thought leader in IT management solutions," the company news release said.

"Marco Comastri's appointment represents a coup for CA Technologies," George Fischer, executive vice president for worldwide sales and operations, said. "To attract a business leader of such skill and experience to lead CA Technologies . . .is a testament to the company's reputation in the market."

Comastri will be based at CA Technologies regional headquarters in Morges, Switzerland.
