CA hosting fundraiser for troops

Next Monday will mark the sixth year CA Technologies, the Islandia business software maker, as host of a golf fundraiser for the AdoptaPlatoon Walking Wounded program.

Money raised that day, at the Spring Lake Golf Club in Middle Island, will benefit U.S. troops who have been injured or wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan, as well as their family members. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

The idea for the fundraisers came from Daniel Kolenda, a vice president in CA's worldwide law department. He's a major in the U.S. Army Reserve, and served in Iraq where he got many "morale-lifting care packages."

The not-for-profit AdoptaPlatoon seeks to improve the quality of life for deployed U.S. servicemen and women. CA Technologies said its funding supports AdoptaPlatoon's Walking Wounded Project, "assisting troops injured in Iraq and Afghanistan as they move from military hospitals to the Wounded Warrior Transition Command or Veteran Affairs system and into the civilian world."

CA said its workers and those of other businesses will take part in the golf outing, as will Long Island veterans, at the Spring Lake Golf Club, 30 E. Bartlett Rd., Middle Island.
