CA Technologies has named Richard Beckert, a company insider, to succeed retiring chief financial officer Nancy Cooper, the Islandia-based software company announced yesterday.

The appointment is effective immediately, CA said. The announcement comes a week after CA announced during an earnings teleconference last Thursday that Cooper wanted to retire.

She joined the company as CFO in 2006, when CA was rebuilding its management team following an accounting and stock-option scandal.

Beckert, 49, also joined the company in 2006, as a senior vice president. He has been CA’s corporate controller for the past three years.

“Rich is an outstanding executive who has a deep understanding of our business, our industry and our customers,” said chief executive Bill McCracken.

CA’s stock closed yesterday at $22.96 a share, up 14 cents, in Nasdaq trading.
