CA Technologies, a software company based in Islandia and Long Island's biggest public company by stock market value, Wednesday named Michael Gregoire its incoming chief executive.
Gregoire will assume the post on Jan. 7, 2013, when CA's current chief executive Bill McCracken is expected to step down from the CA Board of Directors.
The appointment of Gregoire comes after a nearly six-month-long search the company announced in June. McCracken will retire from CA at the end of March 2013 and will advise Gregoire in his new post until then.
CA's stock is up 0.82 percent in after-market trading, following the announcement.
“I accepted the position because I believe CA Technologies has a compelling value proposition, a strong reputation and a growing relevance for customers, software engineering, and partners," Gregoire said in a news release.
Gregoire, who is 46, has over 25 years of work experience in the information technology and software sector. He formerly served as the chief executive of Taleo Corp, a cloud-based recruitment platform company based in Dublin, Calif.
During his tenure at Taleo, Gregoire took the company public in 2005, and oversaw its acquisition by Oracle Corp. for $2 billion earlier this year.
