Challenges in the transition toward cloud computing -- and away from dedicated servers and PC-installed software -- is the focus of an informal poll on the website of Islandia-based CA Technologies.
The poll asks for opinions on “the top challenge when using public cloud services to interact with and support customers.”
As of Thursday morning 1,006 votes were tallied. Results thus far show that about 700 voters, or 70 percent, thought security and compliance were the top challenge.
Cloud computing refers to on-demand, cost-saving subscription plans allowing companies to use variable amounts of data storage, software and other resources over the Internet, as needed.
By reducing the need for hardware and software installed on a company's own premises, cloud computing is seen as a way to reduce overall computing costs.
The CA poll’s runner-up answers so far are:
•Inability to customize (13 percent)
•Validating and auditing end-user experience (10 percent)
•Predicting and managing costs (7 percent)
Cloud computing services is one of CA’s major global sales initiatives.
