Cablevision Systems Corp. said Friday afternoon it had tracked down and fixed a problem that had disrupted "more than a decade of uninterrupted e-mail service" to customers on Long Island and in other areas of metro New York City.

It said the problem was caused by "a digital mail storage device malfunction." The news came after angry customers said they'd been without e-mail for more than 24 hours.
