Cablevision signs on with planned HBO streaming service

Cablevision Systems Corp. announced Monday that its broadband Internet service customers will have access to HBO's new streaming service, HBO Now, starting in April.
Cablevision, based in Bethpage, said it's the first cable television company to offer HBO Now. The deal underlines the growing emphasis at Cablevision, which owns Newsday, on Internet and Wi-Fi services. Cablevision said more details, including the pricing for HBO Now, would be announced soon.
"We are enabling Optimum Online customers to enjoy content in any way they choose to receive it," said Kristin Dolan, the company's chief operating officer.
Last week, HBO announced that Apple Inc. would be a digital partner for HBO Now.
Cablevision's stock closed up 35 cents, or nearly 2 percent, at $18.21 per share.
