Canon helps shoppers with smartphones
Canon is trying to keep comparison shoppers in the aisles by bringing information such as product reviews directly to their smartphones.
Select Canon products at Best Buy, Staples and other retailers in North America will soon contain a Microsoft Tag 2D bar code.
Shoppers or store sales clerks can use a smartphone to scan the tag, which launches a mobile “microsite,” containing user-generated ratings and reviews, video product demonstrations and detailed product information.
Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A., based in Lake Success, said, “The goal is to create a great shopping — and buying — experience at the retail level. We know consumers crave product details and information, and we want to prevent walkout in cases where consumers are seeking information in store but can’t get it.”
The mobile marketing program comes from digital imaging company Knotice (pronounced “notice”), based in Akron, Ohio.
