Canon USA has introduced a new generation of high-definition security video cameras installed with software to detect unattended bags and other potential risks.

The in-camera software can be programmed, depending on circumstances and locations, to send alerts based on visual data, Canon USA, of Lake Success, said Wednesday.

“Intelligent Features include abandoned, moving, and removed object detection” in the Canon cameras, the VB-M40, VB-M600VE and VB-M600D.

“User-adjustable in terms of detection area, sensitivity and duration, these features can engage configured alarms and notification functions.”

The software also sends alerts based on nearby sound levels and other possible evidence that someone might be tampering with the camera itself.
