As part of a film venture titled "Project Imagin8tion," moviemaker Ron Howard and Canon USA Inc., of Lake Success, have chosen eight winning photos -- out of a total of 96,362 entries -- submitted by photographers nationwide.

The eight images are the culmination of "the first user-generated photo contest in history to ultimately inspire a Hollywood short film," Canon said.

The film, with a narrative linking the eight winning photos, will be shot with Canon DSLR products.

Canon asked photographers to send their most imaginative images, based on a series of movie themes -- Setting, Time, Character, Mood, Relationship, Goal, Obstacle and the Unknown.

The winners range from 20 to 44 years old. Three are from California, and one each from North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
