Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre has a new president.

Joseph Manopella was named last month as the hospital's top administrator, with a focus on expanding clinical services, improving patient satisfaction and increasing staff engagement, Rockville Centre-based Catholic Health said.

The 375-bed hospital plans to expand programs such as primary care, women’s and children’s services, cardiology and endocrinology once it opens its new 16,000-square-foot Ambulatory and Family Care Center early next year, Catholic Health said.

The hospital “is poised for a new era of growth driven by enhanced services, and Catholic Health is bringing more doctors into its network to expand access to top quality medical and surgical specialties,” Manopella said in a statement. “I’m excited to join Catholic Health and Mercy at a time of immense growth and opportunity.”

Manopella has worked in health care administration for more than 25 years. He most recently served as executive director of Northwell Health’s Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, a division of Lenox Hill Hospital, where he managed capital projects while expanding clinical services and increasing patient satisfaction, Catholic Health said in a statement. Before that, he was executive director of LIJ Valley Stream.

“Joe’s years of experience in health care operations brings great strength to Mercy Hospital as we embark on a number of service expansions to benefit its surrounding communities,” Dennis Verzi, Catholic Health's executive vice president and chief operating officer, said in a statement.

Manopella earned a master of business administration degree in health care administration from Baruch College/Mount Sinai School of Medicine and a bachelor of science degree from Stony Brook University. He lives in Williston Park with his wife and three children.

Catholic Health has 16,000 employees, six acute care hospitals, three nursing homes, a home health service, a hospice and a network of physician practices.
