A new Chipotle Mexican Grill is planned for West Hempstead, pending approval from the Town of Hempstead Board of Appeals.

The proposed location, at 590 Hempstead Tpke. next to a T-Mobile store, is under review for several zoning variances, according to town spokesperson Casey Sammon.

The applicant, 590 Hempstead LLC, doing business as Chipotle, is seeking variances related to off-street parking, the construction of a trash enclosure and the installation of a 6-foot-high fence, according to the board.

Chipotle owns all of its locations and does not have a franchise model, the company said.

A Board of Appeals hearing is scheduled for Aug. 6 at 2 p.m. at Old Town Hall, 350 Front St. in Hempstead.

The board will vote to approve, deny or table the requests at the meeting, which will include comment, Sammon said.

“We think it’s a smart development for the community, and we encourage anyone to come out to the hearing,” he said.

Mohit Patel, a spokesperson for Chipotle, confirmed to Newsday on Friday that a West Hempstead restaurant is in development for 2026 but declined to provide additional details.

The fast-casual chain, founded in 1993 in Denver and now based in California, operates 34 restaurants on Long Island, according to its website.

The company’s main competitors are Qdoba Mexican Eats, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Baja Fresh Mexican Grill, Rubio’s Coastal Grill and Taco Bell, according to financial media website Investopedia.

Chipotle reported $3.1 billion in revenue in its second-quarter 2025 earnings report, a 3% increase from the same period last year.
