Melville-based defense contractor Comtech Telecommunications Corp. may be in the market to acquire a Maryland satellite command company, the Financial Times reports.

The FT reports that Integral Systems, of Columbia, Md., has hired an adviser as it evaluates a possible sale to several potential buyers including Comtech.

The FT story was based on a report by the subscription-only trade publication dealreporter.com.

Comtech had been dealt a setback in September after its planned $472.3-million agreement to buy Palo Alto, Calif.-based CPI International Inc. fell through. With the cancellation Comtech got a termination fee of $15 million from CPI. Comtech had planned to fund the acquisition with $372 million in cash and by issuing 4.4 million shares of Comtech common stock.
