Comtech Telecommunications of Melville reports 2Q profit

Comtech Telecommunications Corp., Melville, Maker of advanced communications devices

Second Quarter: Ended Jan. 31

Net income: Profit of $16.3 million, compared with profit of $12.1 million in the same period last year.

Net sales: $171.1 million compared with $143.9 million in the year-ago quarter.

Outlook: Second-quarter earnings were hurt by delays in delivery of new movement tracking system computers to the U.S. Army. The computer supplier's revised schedule means that up to $100 million in deliveries won't ship until fiscal 2011.

Company statement: "Although we are disappointed that our third-party supplier continues to experience production-related issues, our second quarter results for fiscal 2010 were solid, and we continue to believe that fiscal 2010 will be another year of record revenues," chief executive Fred Kornberg said in a news release.
