Comtech Telecommunications Corp., a maker of advanced communications equipment for the civilian and military markets, is laying off 40 employees at a Tampa, Florida, facility run by a company it acquired in February 2016, according to a government filing.

Comtech, based in Melville, disclosed the layoffs in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filing with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.

The filing said the professional, scientific and technical services employees would be laid off through June 14.

The Tampa facility was operated by Telecommunication Systems Inc., now a unit of Comtech. Comtech acquired Telecommunication Systems, based in Annapolis, Maryland, for $430.8 million.

A call seeking comment from Comtech was not immediately returned.

Shares of Comtech closed up more than 3 percent to $15.04 on the Nasdaq Global Select Market. Shares are down about 35 percent in the past 12 months.
