A subsidiary of Melville-based Comtech Telecommunications Corp. has received a $35.4-million design and supply contract for a telecommunications system for a North African government, the parent company has announced.

Comtech Systems of Orlando, Fla., is a subcontractor in the project. A news release did not specify the prime contractor or the government.

The subsidiary says on its Web site that it has representatives in Tripoli, Libya, and Cairo.

Comtech Systems supplies "over-the-horizon microwave, line-of-sight microwave and satellite" transmission systems, the company said.

"We have worked with this end customer for many years now and believe that this contract award is a significant validation of our expertise in designing and delivering mission-critical communication systems," Fred Kornberg, president and chief executive of the parent company, said in the release.
