New Jersey-based ConnectOne Bank has opened its first Long Island office.

The commercial bank said Tuesday the branch at 48 South Service Rd. in Melville is part of its "continued expansion within the New York market."

The bank, based in Englewood Cliffs, said it also plans to open an office in Astoria, Queens, later this year.

"The Melville office will serve as a business banking hub for the Long Island market, which mirrors the needs of the New Jersey markets we currently serve," said Frank Sorrentino III, the bank's chairman and CEO.

The bank has 22 banking offices in New Jersey and New York.

ConnectOne reported assets of $5.2 billion as of March 31, an increase of $50 million from Dec. 31, 2017.

The bank's shares closed down almost 1 percent to $26.15 on Tuesday.
