Consumer confidence on Long Island edged up in the final three months of 2011 but was still lower than in the beginning of the year.
The Siena College Research Institute Tuesday reported its confidence index for Nassau and Suffolk counties in the October-December period was 62.8, an increase of 1 point from the previous quarter.
The local index was 71.1 in January-March 2011. A year ago, in October-December 2010, the index was 67.7.
Siena also found more Long Islanders planning to buy automobiles, furniture and homes than in July-September 2011.
