CPI Aero gets $9M contract for chopper parts

Defense contractor CPI Aerostructures Inc., of Edgewood, has a new five-year, $9.2-million contract to make anti-missile device assemblies for Black Hawk helicopters for the U.S. military.

The assemblies will be supplied to Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., of Connecticut, the prime contractor for the helicopters. An initial $2.85 million contract calls for delivery by CPI early next year.

"The agreement includes four different variants of Hover Infrared Suppression Subsystem (HIRSS) Modules for L and M model Black Hawk helicopters. CPI Aero has been manufacturing HIRSS Modules for Sikorsky since 2006. This new agreement covers Sikorsky’s best estimated quantity requirements for these assemblies through 2015," CPI said in a Thursday news release.
